Mike Williamson says he is unaware of any rival interest in Kadeem Harris as he bids to keep him at Carlisle United.

The Blues are in talks over extending the attacking midfielder’s deal at Brunton Park.

Harris’ current terms run out later this month and head coach Williamson is keen to keep him for the rest of the campaign.

The former Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday man has made a positive impact since joining Carlisle as a free agent in early November.

Sporting director Rob Clarkson is leading negotiations aimed at securing Harris for the remainder of United’s survival battle.

Asked if there were any rivals for Harris’s services given some of his displays for the Blues, Williamson told the News & Star: “I'm not aware of any interest.

“Kads has been fantastic since he's come in, but he's just very calm and he's a very cool personality.

“So, there's no rushing from their perspective. I know Rob's been talking with his agent and we're hopeful of coming to an agreement.”

United have said Harris remains under contract for “a couple” more weeks with Williamson expressing hope over the progress of talks.

Speaking to the club’s official channels the Blues head coach added: “I want to tell Kads every day how much we love him and how much we want him here, but there are many factors to it.”

Harris joined Carlisle in the autumn as he returned to English football after spells in Turkey and Ukraine.

He has made nine appearances for the Cumbrians, scoring two goals – in the 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley and the 3-2 defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

United are eager to retain Harris despite deciding not to extend the deals of two other players on short-term contracts, with Ben Williams and Tyler Burey set to move on as Carlisle, who have made six January signings so far, look to bring in more players this month as well as offload others.
