Carlos Alcaraz becomes David Moyes' first transfer signing after Everton return
Carlos Alcaraz has become the first signing of David Moyes’ second tenure as Everton manager after completing his loan move to the Blues.
Almost 23 years on from when the Scot snapped up Olympique Marseille’s Joseph Yobo, he has swooped for Argentinian Alcaraz with the 22-year-old having previously Premier League experience with Southampton.
The Blues have an option to buy at the end of the season and Alcaraz will wear the number 24 shirt.

Alcaraz became the most expensive player in Brazilian club Flamengo’s history when they paid €18million to take him from the Saints on August 28 last year. The 22-year-old played 15 games for the Rio de Janeiro giants and scored three goals, finding the net in his final outing on January 31 in a 2-0 home win over Sampaio-RJ in the Campeonato Carioca (State Championship).
Born in La Plata on November 30, 2002 – over eight months after Moyes was originally hired at Goodison Park – Alcaraz started his career with Racing Club, scoring an extra time winning goal in the 2022 Argentine Cup final against Boca Juniors, sparking a large melee that saw no fewer than 10 red cards dished out, including one for himself.
He made 48 appearances and score eight goals for Southampton, with his debut coming in a 2-1 win over Frank Lampard’s Everton at Goodison Park on January 14, 2023, and also turned out a dozen times on loan for Italian side Juventus in the second half of the 2023/24 season, although the Turin club did not take up their option to buy him for €49.5million.
