Carlos Corberan says his full focus is on West Bromwich Albion amid speculation over the vacant Southampton job.

The Spaniard has been linked with the position following the departure of Russell Martin after their 5-0 loss to Spurs last weekend.

In a twist of fate, it was Martin who beat Corberan in the play off semi final last season before then winning against Leeds at Wembley.

It is understood no official approach has been made from the Premier League as the likes of Denmark's Kasper Hjulmand and Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday continue to be linked. Speaking at his pre match Bristol City press conference, Corberan, who was previously linked with the Wolves job, told us he felt it was disrespectful to be talking about something other than the "great club".

He said: "For me it is disrespectful for this great club and our amazing fans to be talking about something that is not related to West Bromwich Albion.

"Sometimes I feel that if you cut (my comments) to say 'I only focus on the game' and I don't talk about anything else - there can be speculation about this!

"I can only tell you that my full focus is to prepare the next game and I don't like that our fans or anyone else at this club can feel any type of disrespect with all of these rumours that can appear.

"I am clear on this, so I am going to speak about Bristol, about what we are going to do in the club, that I can control, because there are things I cannot control and I cannot talk about things I cannot control."

Asked if the speculation affects him or the players, he said: "I have been in football many years now. I have been reading rumours, I have been part of rumours, even from my time in Leeds and after in Huddersfield. Always, rumours are part of this. I suffer more for the level of respect that the people that can be affected can feel. That is the only important thing for me."

Albion host Bristol City this weekend before a manic Christmas period which will see them travel to Derby and Sheffield United before they return to the Hawthorns to host Preston on New Year's Day.

Corberan conceded he wanted to give the Baggies fans the ultimate Christmas present on Sunday but that he "always" wants to do this.
