Castleford Tigers have strengthened their squad with the arrival of St Helens utility Ben Davies. The 24-year-old has made 41 appearances for Saints but with first-team opportunities likely to be hard to come by at the start of the season, he has been sent to the Tigers to earn match fitness.

It also helps Castleford cover some of their injury issues. Rowan Milnes will miss the start of the season and they have lost some outside backs in the shape Jason Qareqare and Louis Senior.

Davies will help cover those positions and could make his debut when the Tigers head to Hull KR on Friday night. Castleford have also confirmed that Davies will be eligible to play against his parent club when the teams face off in round two.

Since losing to Bradford Bulls in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, the Tigers have been actively looking for recruits. It has seen them draft in Davies, while Nick Staveley is set to arrive after his release from Hull FC.

However, further recruits are still being pursued, which could give Danny McGuire further options to choose from ahead of their trip to Craven Park.
