Castleford Tigers set sights on Salford Red Devils prop ahead of potential fire sale
Castleford Tigers have set their sights on Salford Red Devils prop Jack Ormondroyd. Rugby League Live can reveal the Tigers have made a formal enquiry to sign the forward with the Reds on the verge of needing to sell players to overcome their latest financial predicament.
Super League clubs were contacted on Wednesday informing them of Salford's current situation, with the Reds not only being told they need to cut their operational costs by £700,000, but now also in need of a cash injection to secure their short-term future.
Salford hope that will come to fruition through external investment, with discussions continuing today. However, the Reds have accepted that if talks don't come to fruition imminently, then they will need to cash in on their players to avoid financial disaster.

That has seen Cas make a move for Ormondroyd, the 33-year-old forward who has made 96 Super League appearances. The Tigers, who have been on the lookout for a prop throughout the off-season, have been tracking developments at Salford for some time and now hope they will be able to sign the former Leeds Rhinos prop ahead of the 2025 season.
With the Tigers under salary cap they will be seen as a preferred buyer should Salford need to sell and, if Salford's investment talks do not result in investment, it is a deal that appears likely to go ahead.
Ormondroyd made his breakthrough with Featherstone and his performances earned him a move to Leeds Rhinos in 2017. A return to Featherstone followed after two seasons at Headingley before making the move to Salford in 2020. He has made 89 appearances for the Reds.
Salford have fielded expressions of interest from over half the clubs in Super League. Hull FC want Marc Sneyd and Deon Cross while Love Rugby League revealed on Thursday that Nene Macdonald has received interest from clubs, with Hull KR among them.
