Celtic might have lost their final Champions League group stage game at Aston Villa last night, but it was a magical moment for former Gartcairn kid Daniel Cummings as he made his senior debut.

The prolific striker, 18, who is a product of Celtic's youth academy, climbed off the bench for the first time during the 3-2 defeat at Villa Park, replacing double hero Adam Idah in 79 minutes.

Ex-Queen's Park loanee Dane Murray also made his debut, replacing Liam Scales in 83 minutes on what was a memorable night for the young Celts.

Airdrie-based West of Scotland Premier League club Gartcairn marked Cummings' debut with a social media post that read: "A brilliant night for our very own Gartcairn Youth striker Daniel Cummings, making his senior debut in the Champions League."

Celtic will now play either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the knockout stages, when the draw is made on Friday.

Cummings is believed to be a target for both West Ham and Brighton, while Celtic are keen for him to sign an extension on what was his first professional contract in 2022.
