A mad punter is out of pocket to the tune of an eye-watering £50,000 after betting it all on Celtic.

Julian, known as @JulianMKD, made the insane bet before kick-off while kitted out in his Hoops kit. The gambler, who has 68,000 followers on X, often shares the details of the high-stakes bets he is placing and this latest gambit is not the first mega cash bundle he has put down in recent times. In the summer he placed £25,000 on Netherlands to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals, while telling England fans: "It's not coming home." It backfired hugely with Ollie Watkins snatching a late 2-1 victory.

But he has now turned his attention to the Old Firm, claiming to be an avid Celtic supporter. He put £50k on Celtic to beat Rangers at Ibrox with a return of £97,500 quoted on his Bet365 account. He shared his exploits posting: "£50,000 on Celtic to beat Rangers. I want to come to Celtic Park soon. I’ll give 10 per cent of profits to one person that LIKES THIS TWEET + FOLLOWS ME. MON THE HOOPS."

Many may be thinking this sounds like a typical gambling trap that we often see on social media, but Julian did provide proof that he had placed the bet - while also addressing sceptics who pointed out there was 'no comma on the stake'. His profile also showed his Bet365 account had a balance of £737,334.

But his mammoth bet backfired and he's been left to eat his own words after Rangers romped to a 3-0 victory. Goals from Ianis Hagi, Robin Propper and Danilo capped off a dominant performance to close the gap in the Premiership to 11 points. The result is a major boost to Philippe Clement who faces constant scrutiny over his future at the club.
