Celtic read out final David Strelec transfer rules as in-demand striker will smash all-time transfer record
Slovan Bratislava director general Ivan KmotrIk has warned Celtic they will have to smash the Slovakian transfer record to sign David Strelec this month.
The clock is ticking on the winter window with Brendan Rodgers desperate to snap up a successor for Kyogo Furuhashi after his £10m switch to Stade Rennes. As it stands, Adam Idah is the only recognised first-team striker with regular minutes leading the line for the Hoops - with Johnny Kenny making just one appearance since returning from his successful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.
Record Sport revealed that Strelec is one of the names that is on their radar but the Slovakian champions are in no rush to allow the 23-year-old to leave Bratislava this month - with the club chief admitting he would expect a summer departure. Kmotrik told Sport: "If David leaves, it will definitely be a Slovak record. In the situation we are in today, however, I do not realistically see him leaving in the winter transfer window.
"Interest in Strelec is still growing, offers are increasing. And big transfers are always usually made in the summer period. I am convinced that the interest in him will be even greater in the summer.”
It is understood the frontman is valued at around £8m as they look to smash the £5m paydays they received following Andraz Sporar's move to Sporting back in 2020. As it stands Sporar is the most expensive player in the history of the Slovak Super Liga.
The stance has emerged with Celtic closing the door on a move for Brondby's Mathias Kvistgaarden while target Kelechi Iheanacho is in England to complete a move to Middlesbrough from Sevilla. Record Sport also revealed that West Ham United are closing in on a pre-contract for Celtic’s teenage scoring sensation Daniel Cummings.
He came off the bench to make his first-team debut in the Champions League clash with Aston Villa. Sky Sports report that with his contract ticking down the Hammers have made a £500k move to bring in the 18-year-old early.
