Celtic sponsors troll Union Bears over Ibrox walkout as 55th minute protest backfires
Celtic's sponsors have poked fun at the Union Bears after their walkout protest spectacularly backfired at Ibrox on Sunday.
Rangers ultras gave their struggling heroes the silent treatment as Philippe Clement's troubled side returned to winning ways at home to St Johnstone. You could have heard a pin drop in the Copland Stand singing section as the club's diehards watched on in silence - only raising their voices when banners were unfurled blasting the board.
The influential group then flooded for the exits in the 55th minute to a chorus of jeers as their pre-planned protest against the blazers in charge sparked an angry reaction from the vast majority of the stadium - who decided to stay in their seats as the Light Blues ran out 3-1 winners.
The unbowed ultras made it clear that their protests won't stop as they continue to demand change both in the boardroom and the dugout. A statement read: "Thank you to every Rangers fan who participated in the protest actions today. We will continue until there is real change for our club."
But the misfiring act of defiance sparked hilarity across the other side of the city on social media, with Celtic fans trolling the civil war that broke out in the stands. And the Parkhead club's front-of-shirt sponsors, Dafabet, couldn't resist a jibe as they trolled the Union Bears on X, writing: "While laughing at the TV, I cant’ [sic] help thinking of the fans walking out their ‘living rooms’ on the 55th minute."
Hoops followers quickly latched on to the wind-up, with one quipping: "switching firesticks off at 55..". Another posted: "Dafabet I wasn’t aware of your game". While a third added: "Never had a bad word to say about dafabet."
