It's set to be a busy month for Arsenal both in terms of their fixture schedule and potential transfers.

The January window is now open and clubs have one final opportunity to offload players or strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Arsenal are in a strong position in the Premier League table as they sit in second place, six points behind leaders Liverpool.

This weekend, the Gunners will take on Brighton away with that match set to get underway on Saturday evening. They will then host Newcastle United in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final next Tuesday.

In terms of transfers, Bukayo Saka's recent hamstring injury could prompt movement this month, while there are also a handful of players that face uncertain futures at the club. So, football.london have taken a look at the recent rumours and reports involving Arsenal...

Arsenal defender 'targeted' by former Premier League manager

Among the players that could depart this month is Polish defender Jakub Kiwior, with reports suggesting he is wanted by French club Marseille. According to La Provence, the 24-year-old is one of two players being targeted by Roberto De Zerbi's club.

Marseille are currently second in the Ligue 1 standings, 10 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, having played a game less. The article states De Zerbi hopes his side can challenge for the title in the second half of the campaign, but will need reinforcements if they are to do so.

Kiwior signed for Arsenal from Spezia Calcio in January 2023, but has made just 14 appearances across all competitions under Mikel Arteta this season. He has four years left on his deal, so Marseille would have to make an offer the north London club cannot refuse if they're to tempt them to the table.

Football.london says: This may be a move Arsenal are unlikely to sanction given they find themselves in the midst of a title race with Liverpool. The Gunners will understandably believe they can push the Merseyside outfit right until the end, which means they will need to utilise their entire squad as they continue to fight on all fronts. In terms of Kiwior's future, the summer might be a different story.

Celtic 'in talks' with Arsenal man

A player more likely to depart in January is left back Kieran Tierney. The Scotland international is out of contract at the end of the season and is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of England.

According to a report from the BBC, Celtic have already held talks with the defender ahead of a summer move as a free agent. Tierney initially signed for Arsenal from the Scottish Premiership club back in 2019, but the Gunners are now ready to let him leave.

The article indicates Tierney has interest from a number of clubs across Europe, and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal would sanction a loan move in January. The 27-year-old has made just one appearance so far this season, so may look for more regular game time elsewhere.

Football.london says: If Arsenal are to allow anyone to leave this month, Tierney's departure would be the least risky. As mentioned, he has made just one appearance this term, so isn't a crucial member of Arteta's squad this season. His history of injury problems could hamper a move, but it seems unlikely Arsenal would stand in his way if an opportunity presented itself, especially if they're ready to let him leave as a free agent in a few months.
