Brendan Rodgers made it his mission to progress into the Champions League knockouts when he returned to Celtic. Now, they face European giants in their quest for the last 16.

The Hoops advanced through the new-look league phase with three victories and a draw from their four games at Parkhead. A 5-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava on the first matchday was an ideal start to the revamped tournament, and a subsequent 3-1 win over Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig confirmed it wasn't just luck. The winning goal that clinched qualification against Young Boys could be seen as fortunate - but after having three goals disallowed in a dominant first half, few would dispute Celtic's deserving victory.

Away matches have been less successful - following a hefty loss to Borussia Dortmund, a change in strategy from Rodgers saw Celtic demonstrate their fighting spirit by drawing with Serie A's Atalanta, but they were left disappointed after only securing a point against an injury-ridden Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, before a wild 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa in the Midlands rounded things off.
