Christmas Day is finally here! That means Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham players will be unwrapping the presents left for them underneath the Christmas tree.

The year 2024 proved to be one of a number of ups and downs for the football club and the hope is everything runs a lot smoother come 2025. Before it is time to ring in new year, Postecoglou and his players will enjoy spending some precious time with their families on Christmas Day.

So what exactly is on the Australian's Christmas list this festive season? football.london takes a look below.

New attacking options

Tottenham are in desperate need of some January reinforcements with injuries hitting them hard in recent weeks. Spurs did manage to sign Dominic Solanke in the summer but they are still a tad light up front, especially with the club unable to get a consistent run of games out of Richarlison due to his persistent injury issues.

Further options in the wide areas certainly wouldn't go amiss with so much at stake in the final few months of the campaign. Tottenham will have Yang Min-hyeok available in 2025 but his football could be rather limited as he tries to get to grips with a new country and new league.

Wilson Odobert's injury coupled with Richarlison's time on the sidelines does leave the team so short on the wings and that is something they really could do with addressing.

Defensive reinforcements

Additions at the back would be a welcome Christmas present for Postecoglou. As was the case last year, Spurs have had to try and cope without main defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero for a period of time and the experienced Ben Davies has also joined them in the treatment room.

Spurs are certainly stronger in the position compared to last year following Radu Dragusin's January arrival but they just cannot cope when three of their four centre-backs are out and are forced to play 18-year-old Archie Gray as a makeshift defender. Another centre-back signing would strengthen the team ahead of a big few months and help ease the fears if there are to be any other injuries on the horizon.

Injury luck and quick returns

Postecoglou would undoubtedly like more than anything for Tottenham to have some luck on the injury front. Injuries proved problematic in November 2023 and the team's form suffered as a result.

The same has happened once again this year and Tottenham cannot afford for that to be the case in the final few months of the campaign as they look to achieve their goals. An injury-free end to the season and swift returns for Guglielmo Vicario and Odobert would go down extremely well.

Consistency

If Tottenham are to achieve their respective goals come May then consistency is going to be key. The Lilywhites have performed well in the cup competitions this term but it has been a different story altogether in the league.

Inconsistency has plagued them and they really should be higher in the standings after not achieving maximum points in some games when victory was in their grasp. All connected with Tottenham just want some consistency rather than the usual rollercoaster of emotions everyone has to go through week in, week out.

And an extremely late Christmas present

Postecoglou will be hoping that his main Christmas present arrives a few months down the line. Spurs need to end their trophy hoodoo as 2025 marks 17 years since they last won silverware.

Tottenham have made a good start to life in the Europa League and the competition does represent a real chance of winning a trophy. The FA Cup will also hopefully prove fruitful, with the team starting their journey with a third round tie away at non-league side Tamworth.

The team do already have a Carabao Cup semi-final on the calendar to look forward to in early 2025 after defeating Manchester United in the quarter-finals last Thursday. Unable to break their duck in 2024, everyone will have their fingers crossed that 2025 is a year to remember at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
