Manchester City have it all to do in the Champions League after throwing away a lead to lose 3-2 to Real Madrid on Tuesday night at the Etihad.

The Blues went ahead at the Etihad when Erling Haaland finished smartly after a well-worked City move. The goal survived a lengthy VAR check before being awarded.

Madrid, who knocked City out of the competition at the quarter-final stage last season on their way to winning the competition, hit back after the break when Kylian Mbappe somewhat fortuitously guided in an equaliser.

But City went back in front 10 minutes from time when Haaland converted from the penalty spot after Phil Foden was felled inside the box. Yet Real responded and City errors proved costly as Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham struck in the final four minutes to give Madrid the advantage heading into the second leg.

The winners will book a place in the last 16 of the Champions League, and Real and City already know they will play one of Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen.

The draw for the round of 16 takes place on Friday, February 21. There is no confirmed time for the draw yet, which is likely to take place at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The last-16 matches will take place on March 4/5 and 11/12. City's second leg in Madrid takes place on Wednesday February 19.
