Championship goalkeeper on Wycombe's radar ahead of Transfer Deadline Day
It has been reported that Wycombe Wanderers are hoping to secure the services of goalkeeper Will Norris from Championship side Portsmouth.
The 31-year-old, who is in his second season with Pompey, has only played nine times this campaign, with his latest appearance coming in a 6-1 away loss to Stoke City at the start of October.
He had played every league game of the previous year as the South Coast team gained promotion to the second tier for the first time in 12 years, and had started this season as first choice.
But following the thrashing in the Potteries four months ago, Norris has been demoted from the matchday squad, losing his place to Nicolas Schmid who has now become the Portsmouth’s number one.
The Free Press also understands that if Norris, who has also played for Cambridge United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, were to sign for the Chairboys, ‘he won’t be coming to sit on the bench’.
Wycombe’s current number one, Franco Ravizzoli, has played 51 times since joining from Milton Keynes in September 2023, keeping 20 clean sheets in which he has only tasted defeat on nine occasions.
In his most recent appearance, he saved a Josh Stokes penalty as Wanderers drew 1-1 with Cambridge United on February 1.
The club began the season with Nathan Bishop in goal following his arrival on loan from Sunderland, but after picking up a serious injury just three games into the campaign, he would spend the next four months on the sidelines.
This led to former manager Matt Bloomfield signing Shamal George on a permanent transfer from Livingston as backup, but he has only played five times and picked up a groin injury in the 2-0 victory against Portsmouth in the FA Cup on January 10.
No time frame has been given on when he will return, but he is expected to be absent for ‘a little while’.
Wycombe’s next game is away at Preston North End on February 8 in the FA Cup, which will be Mike Dodds’ first in charge following his appointment on February 2.
