After a gruelling week of European action, Celtic and Rangers are set to battle it out for the first trophy of the season.

The Premier Sports Cup, or League Cup to give it the tournament its original title, is on the line at Hampden Park - as the Old Firm foes go head-to-head, and both sides will head to the game full of confidence after sparkling recent form. Whilst there was midweek frustration in Europe for Brendan Rodgers' Hoops, a stalemate in Zagreb continued their impressive campaign to date - with just one loss to their name in all competitions. And the Parkhead side swept aside Rangers the last time the teams met, winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo and skipper Callum McGregor.

Rangers meanwhile will be determined to keep the League Cup in the Ibrox trophy cabinet for another 12 months, with James Tavernier's goal 12 months ago enough to see off Aberdeen and secure a first trophy for Philippe Clement. After a troubled start to the season that leaves them 11 points behind Celtic, the Govan club have hit form in recent weeks - and were unfortunate not to beat Premier League Tottenham in the Europa League after an impressive showing. That put an end to a run of four straight victories, but it's unlikely to have dented confidence at all in Rangers' ranks.
