Cheddar Ladies walking football team made a promising start to their league season.

The team played their first Somerset FA league match over the weekend, comprising of five fixtures at Strode College against more experienced sides.

They drew three games and narrowly lost two, one of which was by just a single goal, and were missing some key players.

However, manager Tim Richens praised the team's display of tremendous ability and commitment, saying they played with a smile on their faces.

The day marked another step in the team's rapid progression since their formation.

A spokesperson said: "If this is a foretaste of what is to come for this group, who play for fun but are extremely competitive, then the future looks very rosy."
