Chelsea inflicted further misery on Tottenham with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, as Nicolas Jackson was once struck against Spurs.

The Blues forward scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture and he was on target here too, heading home to double in the lead after Trevoh Chalobah had put the hosts in front in the first-half.

Spurs have now lost back-to-back London derbies in the space of a few days and it is three defeats on the bounce, dealing a potentially decisive blow to their hopes of securing Champions League football next season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side trail Aston Villa by seven points, and while they do have a game in hand, Spurs next face Liverpool at Anfield and there is still a clash with Manchester City to come. Chelsea, meanwhile, sit eighth in the Premier League table, but only three points off Manchester United in sixth.

It was a familiar story for Chelsea’s opener, as Spurs once again proved unable to defend a set-piece. Conor Gallagher swung a free-kick to the back post, where Chalobah found himself free to loop a header into the far corner.

Postecoglou was increasingly furious on the touchline and there was surely more of the same at half-time, as his side came out after the break with much more intensity.

There was little in the way of clear-cut chances for Spurs, though, and with 20 minutes remaining the size of the task facing them was doubled. Cole Palmer’s brilliant free-kick smacked back off the bar, with Jackson reacting quickest to head the rebound into the empty net, a setback the visitors showed no signs of being able to respond to.
