Chelsea Women have agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign Keira Walsh ahead of the Women’s Super League transfer deadline.

Clubs have until 11pm on Thursday, January 30 to complete their transfer dealings, with the transfer window being different to that of the Premier League that closes on Monday, February 3.

Various reports claim that the Blues have agreed an £800,000 fee with Barcelona for England international Walsh, who is due for a medical today (Thursday). The player was said to be keen to return to England to move closer to family after spending two years in Spain after moving from Manchester City.

The move for Walsh comes after Chelsea beat the World Record transfer fee in women’s football for defender Naomi Girma, who completed a move to Stamford Bridge earlier this month. The USA international was unveiled prior to the 1-0 WSL win over Arsenal last weekend.

Walsh has six-months remaining on her Barcelona contract with the midfielder unlikely to put pen-to-paper on a new deal. Her move to Chelsea sees her become the second most expensive transfer, behind Girma.

The midfielder has 80 caps for England and was a key part of the Lionesses side who were crowned European Champions back in 2022. The following summer saw her move from Man City to Barcelona, where she has helped the club win consecutive league and European titles.

Should the move be completed before the deadline she will look to help Chelsea maintain their place at the top of the WSL title. The Blies are currently seven points ahead of second-placed Manchester United, having only dropped two points so far this season.
