Chelsea Alejandro Garnacho transfer deal concern raised as Jadon Sancho point made
TV pundit Paul Merson has questioned why Chelsea are considering signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United this month - and doesn't see where he would fit into Enzo Maresca's side.
A report on Thursday stated that the Blues are considering an opening bid to snap-up the 20-year-old winger, who has attracted interest in January after struggling to adapt under new United boss Ruben Amorim. Garnacho has one goal and one assist in 15 matches since the Portuguese was appointed as their head coach.
With Garnacho's future at United uncertain and Chelsea interested, Sky Sports Germany then claimed on Friday that a swap deal, involving the Argentine and Christopher Nkunku, is being considered. Nkunku has struggled for game-time at Stamford Bridge this season, having started just three Premier League matches.

While ex-Arsenal playmaker Merson is behind United's move for Nkunku, he doesn't understand why Chelsea want Garnacho due to the wealth of options already in the Chelsea attack.
"I don't get the Garnacho one as he is not better than [Jadon] Sancho, he is not better than [Pedro] Neto," Merson told Sky Sports. "Him and [Noni] Madueke have their days where they look really good - but it won't be consistent enough. Yeah I don't see where he plays, but Nkunku walks into the Man United team."
"If I am Man United, I am getting that deal done, 100 per cent," Merson said. "I am dropping him [Garnacho] off and picking up Nkunku. He's a good player, he has been bang unlucky at Chelsea because of [Cole] Palmer, who's done unbelievably well. If Man United get him, that would get a signing and a half."
United head coach Amorim was quizzed on Garnacho's future after his team's 2-1 win over Rangers at Old Trafford on Thursday. When asked if that could be his final home game for the club, Amorim replied: "No, I'm focused on the games and he's here, he's a player for Manchester United.
"Was really important for us today and let's see in the next days. I think he's improving in every aspect of the game. He was better today playing inside, also outside, changing positions, he's improving the recovering position.
"You can see it until 90 minutes he's always there recovering and he's helping, sometimes showing some frustration and that's good because he wants more.
"I think he has potential to be so much better in every situation in the game. What I can say is he understood what I was trying to do, was really clear, I just want to help them but in the end it's them that do the job."
