Chelsea attempt to hijack Tottenham transfer with airport repeat revealed
Tottenham Hotspur's deadline day revolved around bringing the promising young Frenchmen Mathys Tel to north London, but a last ditch effort from Chelsea promised to hijack the deal in a Willian-esc move that could have seen Tel become a blue.
With Tel unhappy with his lack of minutes at Bayern Munich, a whole host of Premier League clubs came sniffing in attempt to bring the 19-year-old on board with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all interested.
Although it was Chelsea that could have posed the biggest upset to Spurs' plans. Tel initially rejected the first offer from Ange Postecoglou's side but after a phone call with the charming Aussie coach, seemed to have a change of heart. Meanwhile, Chelsea was mulling over a bid for the Frenchman, but upon hearing of Spurs' deal, Maresca's team tried to snatch him away just as he was about to board his flight.

Fortunately for Spurs, Tel had already made up his mind and turned down Chelsea's advances, opting to sign on loan with an option to make the deal permanent for £45 million in the summer, thereby avoiding a repeat of the 2013 Willian debacle.
The Brazilian winger infamously spent hours undergoing a medical at Spurs with a deal to bring him to White Hart Lane practically completed before making a quick trip to west London and being announced as a Blue just hours later.
Speaking of the transfer scandal more recently Willian revealed:" I stayed there for eight hours in the training centre. Tottenham’s director said, 'I’m going to report you to FIFA, this and that, fans here in England will boo you, this and that'. They made up a lot of things. I got stuck there for eight hours. Then I left and I went straight to meet the Chelsea people to sort the details and sign."
Fans of The Lilywhites may be lucky enough to see Tel in action as early as tonight, with Postecoglou confirming he's available for the Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Liverpool.
