Chelsea bid, Arsenal shock, Tottenham dream - Harry Kane transfer decided after new bombshell

A record 55 Bundesliga goals in his opening 50 matches from Harry Kane is not enough to impress some in Germany. 72 in 70 for Bayern Munich (at the time of writing), still attracts doubters.

At 31, Kane's mentality and ability to drag a team towards major trophies is under question. Not helped by Bayern relinquishing their stranglehold on the Bundesliga title in his first year at the club, the uncertainty over just how good this team is under Vincent Kompany has not helped.

Bayern have a team of brilliant young players and elder statesmen to steer them through. It is a nice balance and an environment that is getting plenty from Kane.

There remains scepticism over his role in leading the team forward to a new era, regardless. All of this comes with the new backdrop of a surprise release clause in his contract.

Reports from Germany say that he could have left for £67million over the winter and that price will drop to £54million in the summer as the trigger remains active. Tottenham, after selling him for over £80million in 2023, also have first refusal ahead of his next transfer.

Although Kane is not said to be pushing for a move away from Bavaria - and he is described as being totally settled at the Allianz Arena - Bayern are planning for the future already with eyes on Benjamin Sesko. It opens up the prospect, if nothing else, of a return to the Premier League.

Fortunately for Kane, even if he is not always the most popular man despite his excellence abroad, and he is seen to still have a point to prove, there are a number of clubs in need of a striker in England. Arsenal, for starters, have been plotting to bring in a new No.9 for over 18 months.

Chelsea seek cover for Nicolas Jackson and competition in their frontline. Meanwhile, Tottenham have seen Richarlison continue to struggle with injuries and would surely welcome their prodigal son back with open arms.

Here, football.london writers discuss who should try to get in the mix for Kane and where he might go next.

To get this out of the way, Kane isn't going to leave Bayern in the summer and even if he does, it won't be to Chelsea, Arsenal, or Tottenham. There would still be sense for them all if he did.

Chelsea need experienced competition and cover for Nicolas Jackson. Splitting game time between them across competitions would be a giant boost for Maresca. The thing is, they won't. He's too old and too good for the current model. Where is the resale value or chance to say 'we found this gem out of nowhere', with Kane?

As for Arsenal, well they absolutely need him. Although he isn't the archetypal penalty box finisher that is missing, Kane can create and score. He is all-round and a demon in front of goal. After spending some time at the club's academy, as well, is it certain he wouldn't return?

Tottenham, logically, are the most likely. Kane wouldn't have to betray any of his previous loyalties. Daniel Levy would never do this, though. Maybe when Kane is 38 and in the twilight of his career, there could be a return. It would be exciting to see him under Ange Postecoglou, regardless.

It won't happen but Arsenal could do with him most. Imagine the number of goals Kane would score in Mikel Arteta's team. They wouldn't be six points behind Liverpool.

Realistically though, if he were to make a return to London, Chelsea would currently be most likely. An experienced and reliable goalscorer up-front would markedly improve Enzo Maresca's side.

His age is an issue, of course, but if the reported £54m needed to get him leads to a Premier League title, it will be more than worth it. I think it's extremely unlikely that he will leave Bayern in the summer, though, unless his family wants a return to London.

Would he do it? I am not so sure but if I am in Arsenal's recruitment team, I am pushing hard to bring Kane to the club.

He ticks all the boxes for the Gunners who are desperately short in their attack. On Wednesday, it was almost like watching an unstoppable title-winning team until the ball got into the final third.

Alexander Isak at the other end was showing exactly what Arsenal are missing and what they could get if they brought Kane on board - a potent goalscorer. That price tag is potentially a third of what Mikel Arteta would have to pay to sign Isak so it seems a no-brainer.

For Kane though, it is whether he can do that to Tottenham. It is clear he still holds a lot of affection for the club and would be seen on a par with Sol Campbell if he was to join Arsenal.

Realistically though, Arsenal are perhaps his best chance of winning the Premier League if he was to return to London but it is whether he is ready to sacrifice his iconic status at Tottenham to win silverware.

I think I might be in the majority here, but it’s Arsenal who are the most in need for an out-and-out finisher, and that is exactly what Harry Kane offers. It feels like he would be a perfect addition to the squad, but it does seem unlikely that any move would happen, given his association with Spurs.

While his performances are sometime questioned, there’s no doubting his goalscoring ability. He has scored at least 28 league goals in each of his last 10 seasons, and is on course to do it again for Bayern Munich this term.

At £54 million it seems a steel, but now at 31-years-old how long he can keep going, especially if he returns to the intensity of the Premier League, is a question that clubs will have to answer.

There is no doubt, though, that the striker would improve Arsenal’s squad in the area they need it most, however unlikely a transfer may be.

Harry Kane's future has seemingly become a topic of conversation once again. This time, there are suggestions that he could be allowed to leave Bayern Munich for £54million this summer.

At the age of 31, Kane has shown that he is still more than capable of being one of the most prolific strikers in front of goal this season. You would think that the England international would back himself to be back among the goals if he were to return to the Premier League.

The question is: which club should sign Kane this summer?

Based on the rumours in January, it would seem that Manchester United may need to sign Kane the most. A host of centre-forwards were linked with moves to Old Trafford, but Kane was not among them.

Of course, another club is seemingly in need of a new No.9 - Arsenal. When it comes to signing Kane, though, a move for a player who is the record top-scorer of their bitter North London rivals may be difficult to get over the line.

Come on now, there's only one answer to this question. Do Tottenham need Harry Kane? With Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and now Mathys Tel, not necessarily. Would Tottenham want Harry Kane back? Absolutely, 100% yes.

And is Harry Kane better than all three of those aforementioned players? Yes, so, you could argue they do need him. then again, you could argue every side in the world needs him, given there are few who can do what he does and put the ball in the back of the net like he does.

I'll play along and say Arsenal absolutely, unequivocally need Kane, given their forward issues, but that's never, ever going to happen. Chelsea would be in the mix too, but I'm not convinced Kane would do that either. Manchester United have been linked before and will be linked again, but who wants to go there right now?

If Kane returns to the Premier League, it's only to one team. End of.
