Chelsea confirm Omari Hutchinson departure as Arsenal get financial boost
Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Omari Hutchinson in a club-record deal for newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
The 20-year-old starred on loan at Portman Road last season, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists in a promotion-winning campaign for the Tractor Boys.
“We wish Omari well as he begins a new chapter in his career and thank him for all his efforts while with the Blues,” read a statement on Chelsea’s website.
Stuttgart had been keen on the forward but Standard Sport understands Ipswich were always frontrunners and they have now confirmed his arrival on a five-year deal.
“We’re so pleased to bring Omari back on a permanent basis,” said Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna told the Club website.
“Omari is someone we all enjoyed working with last season and the staff, his teammates and supporters all saw how he grew and developed over the course of the year, which is testament to the hard work he put in.
“The impact he had on the team throughout the season, especially in the latter part, was evidence of that and he, like so many of his teammates, played a significant part in that success for the Club.
“We think Omari is a fantastic player and person to have at the Club for the long-term future. He has a hunger to improve and show that he can compete and thrive in the Premier League.”
Hutchinson’s move will also benefit Arsenal, who sold the winger back to the Blues after seven years with the Gunners in 2022.
It is believed they inserted a sell-on clause, banking them between 15 to 20 per cent of the fee received by Chelsea.
