Chelsea defender 'targeted' as Trevoh Chalobah truth emerges
Chelsea are in Premier League action this weekend with an away trip to Crystal Palace, but attention has also shifted to the January transfer window in the last few days.
Enzo Maresca's side have enjoyed a promising start to the 2024/25 season, but back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Ipswich Town over the Christmas period means they are now fourth in the standings and 10 points behind leaders Liverpool.
The London club have also suffered a handful of injuries in recent weeks, including to defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, which has resulted in increased transfer speculation as the January window is now wide open. So, football.london have taken a look at the latest transfer rumours involving Chelsea...

Renato Veiga 'targeted' by Serie A clubs
Among the players that could be in line for a departure from Stamford Bridge this month is defender Renato Veiga. The 21-year-old joined from FC Basel in the summer and has featured 17 times across all competitions under Maresca this season.
However, he isn't the first-choice left back, as Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto are often preferred in that position. As a result, a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claims a handful of clubs are eyeing a move for the youngster this month.
Napoli are rumoured to be among them, along with Juventus and Bundesliga side Stuttgart. Veiga, though, is under contract until at least the summer of 2031 with the option of a further year.
Football.london says: Chelsea's injury problems in defence could prevent any departures this month, although they are well stocked at left back at least. With just seven Premier League appearances this season, only one of which was from the start, there will be little surprise if Veiga pushes for more first team football elsewhere, even if it is on loan.
Trevoh Chalobah truth emerges
In a significant blow to Chelsea, Maresca confirmed on Friday that Fofana is set for an extended spell on the sidelines and could miss the rest of the campaign due to a hamstring injury. The defender hasn't featured since the beginning of December and Badiashile is also expected to be out for at least another month.
Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo are the current centre back options available to Maresca, but concern is certainly growing ahead of the second half of the season. However, Chelsea will not be able to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace, according to The Athletic.
The 25-year-old is on a season-long loan at Selhurst Park and the article confirms there is no break clause in the loan deal, which means he will not be able to be recalled by Chelsea to ease their defensive cover concerns. Speaking ahead of Chelsea's meeting with Palace this weekend, in which Chalobah is ineligible to play, Oliver Glasner hinted the Eagles could pursue a permanent move in the summer.
"A deal happens if three parties are happy with it: the two clubs and the player," he said. "‘If all parties want to have a deal, and agree, it will happen. He’s doing really well for us and we were very consistent in our defensive line."
Football.london says: Concern is certainly growing at Chelsea now that the extent of Fofana and Badiashile's injuries have been confirmed. Recalling Chalobah could have been an ideal solution, but now it seems Maresca will have to dip into the market if he wants to bolster his options to keep their title hopes alive. It's a crucial month for Chelsea for that reason.
