Mathys Tel has emerged as a potential January signing for Chelsea. The Blues have slipped out of Premier League title contention in recent weeks, without a win in their last five games.

As a result they are ten points off the pace at the top of the table, with league leaders Liverpool holding a game in hand on the Blues too.

Questions are once again being asked of their attacking prowess, with just four goals in those last five outings. Nicolas Jackson, having started the season so well, is now struggling in front of goal again.

football.london understands that Chelsea have made contact with Bayern Munich over a move to sign Tel this month. He will cost in the region of £40million, according to reports.

The Blues are long time admirers of the French teenager and made an enquiry to sign him last summer. Around six months later and the west Londoners have once again asked the German club whether Tel would be available to leave the Allianz Arena in the January transfer window.

Tel has yet to score this season, although his game time in Germany is limited with England captain Harry Kane ahead of him in the pecking order. Tel did, however, manage 10 goals in 41 appearances last season, with almost all of those appearances coming off he bench.

At 19 years old, he has plenty of time on his side, and in Kane he is learning from one of the very best.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Kane in the past, particularly when his Tottenham future was up in the air in 2023 and Mauricio Pochettino had made the move to become head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Now, Chelsea could finally get their hands on someone who could be described as the next Kane, with Tel learning from the former Spurs striker.

Speaking last year, Tel said: "He's a great striker, he has shown that across his career. I'm a striker too, so he's a role model for me. It's important to have people to learn from technically and in terms of finishing.

"Often I don't even have to ask him. He just comes over to me and tells me: 'Mathys, you can do that, or that". He's a role model to me, and he is helping me a lot.

"He will often give me advice on what I could do differently. He will tell me: 'That could have gone better had you done that'. He pays close attention to the little details and he's looking to help me in any way he can. He's supporting me a great deal."
