Chelsea take first steps for first January transfer after brutal Enzo Maresca axe
Chelsea are expected to be rather quiet with the number of incomings in the January transfer window but there is expected to be movement with players departing.
A number of Enzo Maresca's squad are facing uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge for different reasons. Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell could be the first players to force a move while players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Cesare Casadei are likely to depart on loan.
However, minor speculation has emerged over Christmas linking the Blues with a new left-back after Ronald Veiga was left out of the squad for the Fulham defeat. Alongside Noni Madueke, the left-back was nowhere to be seen on Boxing Day with no explanation provided beforehand.

After the game, Maresca confirmed there was no injury for either player. "For sure, the competition has to be higher but not only for Noni Madueke but also Renato Veiga was not in the squad and the reason is exactly the same for both of them," he said.
"There is not any different reason, it's just a technical decision."
Veiga, 21, has appeared 17 times for Chelsea this season but only seven times in the Premier League. However, despite the technical reason behind his absence being unknown, reports have linked the club with a new left-back in Patrick Dorgu.
The 20-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in Serie A with Lecce and has reportedly been watched by Chelsea's recruitment team. As well as playing in midfield, Dorgu's contract expires in 2029 meaning Lecce are in a strong position to demand a sizeable fee.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have also shown interest in the young defender. It's understood that Spurs have been monitoring the four-cap Denmark international since the summer.
