Chelsea have recalled Eddie Beach from his loan spell at League One side Crawley Town. The 21-year-old goalkeeper made just two appearances for the Reds during his loan spell but has now returned to west London.

The Blues had sent the youngster to the West Sussex side in the hope he would rack up valuable minutes in the Football League, but he struggled to break into the starting XI. Joe Wollacott, who also joined Crawley last summer, quickly became the club's No.1 and an injury picked up by Beach at the end of September did not help matters.

A statement published on the official Chelsea website reads: "Chelsea goalkeeper Eddie Beach has been recalled from his loan spell at Crawley Town. Beach joined the League One side in August and made two first-team appearances.

"The first came in the EFL Trophy and the second arrived in the FA Cup second round. The loan was the Wales Under-21 international’s third away from Chelsea, having previously spent time at Chelmsford City and Gateshead."

Crawley thanked Beach for his efforts during his short spell with the club. "Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that goalkeeper Eddie Beach has been recalled from his loan spell by his parent club Chelsea FC," a statement read.

"Eddie signed for the Reds in the summer and featured for the club on two occasions, but served an important role in providing competition for Joe Wollacott and Jasper Sheik in the goalkeeper department. Eddie’s star cameo came in a Vertu Trophy group stage match against Brighton & Hove Albion’s U21 side as he saved the final penalty in the shootout to secure Crawley an extra point. The club would like to thank Eddie for all of his efforts during his time at the club and would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
