It's been a quiet January transfer window so far for Chelsea with minimal movement in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

The biggest story of the month for Enzo Maresca's side has arguably been Trevoh Chalobah' s loan recall from Crystal Palace due to defensive injuries. With that being said, there could still be movement further up the pitch with links to Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, as well as talk of an exit for Christopher Nkunku.

Football.london reported earlier this week that Chelsea are targeting a left winger before the deadline due to the FA suspension of Mykhailo Mudryk. A number of options are being explored, including Garnacho and Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.

However, there isn't just talk of incomings with Nkunku's future at Chelsea in doubt due to his limited game time this season, having started just three Premier League games under Maresca so far. Rumours indicate a swap deal for Garnacho could be in the cards with United reportedly keen on the Frenchman.

Chelsea, though, may have a more favourable option that avoids selling Nkunku to a direct rival this season. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are among a number of clubs rumoured to be interested in the forward, which means a swap deal for left winger Mathys Tel could be more beneficial.

The 19-year-old attacker joined Bayern from Rennes back in 2022 and has already amassed over 80 senior appearances for the German club. However, this season Tel's game time has been significantly reduced and he was an unused substitute in their 2-1 win over SC Freiburg on Saturday.

Nkunku is well acquainted with the Bundesliga having spent four years with RB Leipzig between 2019 and 2023. There, he scored 70 goals and registered 54 assists in his 172 appearances across all competitions.

A swap deal with Bayern would certainly rule out a move for Garnacho, who is among the players United are reportedly willing to offload in the transfer window. Chelsea's next move will likely depend on who they believe has a higher ceiling, but it's worth noting Garnacho's wealth of Premier League experience could work in his favour.
