Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been tipped to move to Chelsea should he not be able to come to an agreement over a new contract at his boyhood club.

Mainoo rose to prominence at Old Trafford last season when he came into the fold to revitalise the Reds' midfield. He soon became a fan favourite having scored in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City and producing consistent performances for the struggling side.

According to the Daily Mail, Mainoo currently finds himself in a deadlock with United over a new contract and should he leave, Chelsea are 'leading the chase' to sign him. The England international has two and a half years remaining on his current deal in the North West but that has not stopped the midfielder from being linked elsewhere.

Should Mainoo leave United in the near future, it would be a huge decision for the club's boyhood supporter to make. As a youngster, the central midfielder chose to reject a move to Manchester City to stay at his beloved club.

Meanwhile, our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News reported in the summer that Mainoo was one of four players who the Reds would not entertain selling. Andre Onana, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund were the other three players seen as untouchable.

However, considering United's current form and the changing atmosphere surrounding the club, that could have changed their stance. The Mail has added that Mainoo is reportedly concerned about his chances of playing Champions League football if he remains at Old Trafford.

He is also keen to see his wage reflect his status at the club. In the summer, Mainoo was on the plane for his first international tournament.
