Chelsea player ratings as Cucurella scores, Caicedo masterful, Jackson redemption vs Brentford
Chelsea have closed the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool to just two points after beating west London neighbours Brentford 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Marc Cucurella gave the Blues the lead not long before half-time with a wonderful header after being found by Noni Madueke's cross from the right. On 60 minutes, Nicolas Jackson missed an absolute sitter to make it 2-0 to the hosts.
Robert Sanchez was called into action on 73 minutes where he made a superb save to prevent Christian Norgaard from levelling the match. Jackson then made it 2-0 to the Blues late on with an emphatic finish.
Bryan Mbeumo got one back late on for the visitors but it proved to be a consolation goal. Cucurella was shown a red card after the full-time whistle after appearing to shove Kevin Schade for his second booking.
Below, Bobby Vincent shares his full Chelsea player ratings...
Robert Sanchez - Quiet night for the 'keeper until 73 minutes when he was called into action to deny a goal-bound volley from Norgaard. Stunning save. 7.
Malo Gusto - Good cross for Nicolas Jackson early on. A decent night for the Frenchman. 6.
Tosin Adarabioyo - Did really well all evening-long. Solid and helped with his aerial ability. 6.
Levi Colwill - Crucial block around half an hour in to stop Mikkel Damsgaard's shot. 7.
Marc Cucurella - Does so well for his goal. Massive determination to find himself in the space and a fine header into the bottom corner. Picks up a silly red card after the full-time whistle had been blown. 8.
Moises Caicedo - A lovely over-the-top through ball to find Jackson early on. Always aggressive and on the front foot. Wins the ball back, as he does so often, for Jackson's goal. Masterful performance. 8.
Enzo Fernandez - Does really well to set Jackson off for the striker's goal. Another assist for the midfielder. 7.
Noni Madueke - His touch let him down on 26 minutes with what was a good opportunity to open the scoring. Another good chance on 38 minutes but Mark Flekken did well to save it with his feet. Redeems himself with a fine cross to Cucurella for his goal. 7.
Cole Palmer - Quiet evening for Chelsea's star man. He is allowed one of them. 5.
Jadon Sancho - Bright as ever. Perhaps not as involved as much as he would have liked but bright when he was. Set up a golden chance for Jackson, which should have been another assist for the Blues' No.19. 6.
Nicolas Jackson - Heads wide early on. Another chance not too long after but Flekken did well to prevent the striker. Misses a sitter on the hour-mark. He did, though, finally score late on to redeem himself. 7.
Christopher Nkunku (on for Jackson 82') - N/A.
