New Chelsea points deduction fear emerges as Premier League decision made
Chelsea face an anxious wait to see if they have satisfied the Premier League's financial rules ahead of a New Year's Eve deadline, according to reports.
All 20 clubs in the English top flight have been handed the December 31 deadline to submit their accounts for the 2023/24 period by the Premier League. The Blues, along with their Premier League rivals, will be hoping that they have avoided making losses of more than £105m for this period reports the Mirror.
Anything more than the allowed losses puts Chelsea, and others, at risk of punishment from the Premier League. Enzo Maresca's side have been the biggest spenders in recent years and the lack of Champions League football has made finances a pertinent issue for the club.

Chelsea may get some leeway through Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules amid the reported sale of two hotels for £76m to a sister company also owned by the club's owners. However, it is only when the Premier League's accountants take a fine tooth comb to their books that they will know for sure.
In the past, these financial deadlines have not been a big issue for clubs but since last season, the Premier League has decided to clamp down on those who may have breached the rules.. Both Everton and Nottingham Forest fell foul of the spending rules in the 2022/23 period and were left with points deductions.
The Toffees were deducted a total of eight points for their financial breaches while Forest were handed a four-point deduction. Both teams managed to stay up but should Chelsea receive a punishment akin to that of Everton, they would slip outside of the top four, as things stand at the time of writing.
