Chelsea make 'record-breaking transfer approach' for Premier League star as private talks emerge
Chelsea only have a few days on the training pitches before they return to action. The Seagulls will host Enzo Maresca's side at the Amex Stadium in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday evening as they both aim for some silverware.
Brighton suffered a 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, while the Blues enjoyed a 2-1 win against West Ham on Monday night. Chelsea may fancy their chances against Fabian Hurzeler's side, but the Seagulls strengthened their squad during the January transfer window.
Unlike the West Londoners, who were more conservative, Brighton signed three new players; a striker, a midfielder and a defender. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up all the latest Chelsea news and transfer gossip.

Chelsea approach for Forest star revealed
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea tried to sign Murillo from Nottingham Forest early into the January transfer window. The 22-year-old defender has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge on numerous occasions ever since he burst onto the scene at the City Ground.
The report claims Evangelos Marinakis refused to consider what would have been a record sale for the club – currently held by Brennan Johnson, who joined Tottenham Hotspur for £47.5m in the summer. It's said that Murillo has been on Chelsea's radar for some time
The Telegraph outline that the prospect of a move was 'shut down after an initial inquiry'. The Brazilian has since been rewarded with a lucrative new contract as Forest look to secure Champions League qualification.
football.london says: "Murrilo would have been a brilliant signing for Chelsea, but is he exactly what the Blues need at the moment? Hopefully Wesley Fofana can pick up from where he left off upon his return from injury."
Chelsea wrap up deadline day deal
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea signed Mathis Amougou from Saint Etienne in the final hours of deadline day. The report states that the 19-year-old midfielder has signed his contract with the Blues, and he'll be expected to join Enzo Maresca's squad at Cobham.
It's said that Chelsea have agreed to pay the French club €15m (£12.5m) for Amougou's signature. It's said that a sell-on clause has also been included in the teenager's deal.
football.london says: "I haven't heard or seen much of Mathis Amougou, but I can only assume he's a project player for Chelsea. I reckon he'll join Strasbourg on loan in the summer as a replacement for the returning Andrey Santos."
Eight players leave Chelsea on deadline day
Eight players left Chelsea on deadline day, with five of which going out on loan: Axel Disasi (Aston Villa), Ben Chilwell (Crystal Palace), Caleb Wiley (Watford), Carney Chukwuemeka (Borussia Dortmund) and Joao Felix (AC Milan).
Meanwhile, three secured permanent moves away from Stamford Bridge: Harvey Vale (Undisclosed to QPR), Somto Boniface (Undisclosed to Ipswich Town) and Reiss Russell Denney (Undisclosed to Tottenham).
All in all, 15 players departed Chelsea in the transfer window.
football.london says: "I'd have rather seen Christopher Nkunku go out on loan instead of Joao Felix, but it's not the end of the world. What's worrying is that Chelsea only made one signing, who may not even be ready for regular Premier League football. In the summer, the Blues need to sign a top striker – and maybe a goalkeeper, depending on how Filip Jorgensen gets on."
