Chelsea will allow young star Renato Veiga to leave the club in the January transfer window, football.london understands, but only on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old only arrived at Stamford Bridge in July, signing a seven-year deal with the Blues. However, after starting just one Premier League game so far and making 13 appearances in total for the club, the left-back wishes to leave in the winter window.

football.london understands that Chelsea are open to Veiga leaving the club this month, but not on a loan deal following his arrival in the summer for around €14million (£11.8million).

Instead they are willing to sanction a permanent exit for the Portuguese international, but will only entertain offers above £20million in total.

Borussia Dortmund are the front-runners to sign Veiga currently, and football.london understands talks are well underway between the parties over a potential move.

The 21-year-old has had a fairly positive start to his time at Stamford Bridge, though he has thus far been unable to oust Marc Cucurella as first-choice left-back. Having started just eight games in the first half of the season, though, it seems as if his mind has been made up to leave the club.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the defender during his press conference ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth, but stated there was not yet an agreement for Veiga to leave the club.

"At the moment, I am not aware that there is an agreement for Renato," Maresca said during his press conference. "Yesterday he was here working with us and today he will be here. At the moment, he is our player.

"The only thing I can say is that we bought Renato from Basel, he has played in different positions and has played well. This has allowed him to be in the senior national team for the first time in his life. Even if he is not playing in his position, it means he can do well in the position he is playing."

When asked if Veiga wanted to play more games for Chelsea, Maresca replied: "I have said many times: I also want the long hair [laughs] but we have 24 or 25 players, so it is not possible."
