Chelsea can save £43m on Nico Williams transfer with winger yet to make decision on future

Nico Williams

Nothing is decided on Omari Hutchinson's future yet after the Chelsea loanee helped Ipswich Town gain promotion to the Premier League.

The 20-year-old winger featured 44 times for the Tractor Boys in the Championship, where he scored 10 goals and assisted six as the East Anglian side finished second to achieve automatic promotion. Hutchinson, on loan from Chelsea, played a key role for Ipswich in their third from last game of the season – a 3-3 draw at Hull City.

The Jamaica international scored two beautiful goals from outside the area to really showcase his talent. With Ipswich being promoted to the top-flight, for the first time in 22 years, there have already been rumours on whether Hutchinson will return to Portman Road on loan against next season.

However, no decision has been made yet, football.london understands. Hutchinson is set to return to Chelsea in the summer and take part in pre-season with the Blues and then he and the club will decide his future ahead of next term.

Chelsea rate Hutchinson very highly and that was shown last season when Graham Potter gave him an opportunity in the first-team last January. Hutchinson came on in the defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League, just three days before he did the same in the FA Cup defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

After such a strong season at Ipswich, though, Hutchinson will not be short of suitors in the summer. Hutchinson's entourage remain confident Chelsea will open talks with the winger over extending his current contract at Stamford Bridge, football.london understands, which is due to expire in just over 12 months' time.

There is clearly a bit of Hutchinson that wants to continue at Portman Road, though, with speculation over his future. "I hope so," Hutchinson said to Sky Sports when asked if he wishes to continue his journey with Ipswich. "I don't know. I'll have to see what my agent is saying and what the manager is saying and then go from there. I just want to celebrate at the moment."

Chelsea are looking at right-sided attackers ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window with Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao on the club's shortlist. The Spain international is said to have a release clause of around £43million in his contract at the San Mames Stadium.

Noni Madueke has shown promising form in recent games which will give the club a huge boost over the summer. The 22-year-old right winger has started to show a bit more maturity in his play – and that was showcased with his assist to Nicolas Jackson in the second-half of the 5-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday.
