All the talk in recent days has been about Chelsea and the possible recall of Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

With Wesley Fofana possibly missing the remainder of the season and Benoit Badiashile out for at least another month, it has left the Blues very short in the centre-back position. Chalobah has been in fine form at Selhurst Park since joining the Eagles on a season-long loan last summer and some supporters are calling for the club to recall the defender this month.

However, after being frozen out by the club last summer, it would be a big U-turn for Chelsea to bring Chalobah back to Stamford Bridge. Either way, football.london has learned the Blues are considering their options re Chalobah and whether to recall him this month.

There has also been talk of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, too, although with it being mid-season, any potential deals become more complicated - and ultimately, more expensive. football.london understands Marc Guehi remains on the club's radar but any deal to sign the Chelsea academy product is unlikely to happen this month. Simply put, Palace will not entertain offers for the 24-year-old in January. If they were to even consider a bid, it would have to be a mouth-watering sum.

Newcastle United tried to sign Guehi last summer and had an offer believed to be around £65million turned down for the England defender. Guehi is not the only centre-back the Blues have an interest in, with a Sporting CP duo also being looked at.

Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande are two defenders Chelsea have been interested in over past transfer windows, football.london understands. Again, though, any deal for either defender this month would surely cost the club too much in transfer fees - meaning the summer is more likely for any possible move.

Saturday afternoon, while Chelsea supporters will be wanting to put it to the back of their minds, saw Josh Acheampong make his full Premier League debut. The 18-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract with the club towards the back end of 2024, partnered Levi Colwill in the centre of the Chelsea defence away at Crystal Palace.

Acheampong was mightily impressive throughout the 90 minutes - so much so, that Enzo Maresca singled the teenager out for praise after the game. Speaking to reporters, the Chelsea head coach said: "All the players, for me, were good today but if I had to decide for one, I think for sure, Josh was our best player because of his age, it was his first game.

"Josh, for me, can be a top player for this club but he needs the right path, the right moment; for young players, you need to decide the moment. We decided today because we think he showed that he was ready.

"Today, I think he showed how good he is. Because of his age, he needs to slow down, work hard and take his next chance."

Acheampong showed at the weekend he has exactly what it takes. With the January transfer window being as inflated as it is, sticking by what they already have would certainly save the club a lot of money this month.
