Chelsea could seal an unlikely Jadon Sancho transfer repeat if Enzo Maresca sanctions a very specific deal in January. A busy winter window did not look likely for the Blues but four games without a win alongside a number of injuries in one particular area could see that change.

Maresca recently confirmed that Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana would each face a lengthy spell out with Chelsea responding to that double blow by recalling Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Boca Juniors. Trevoh Chalobah returning early from his temporary spell at Crystal Palace is also being considered.

As a potential alternative to that, Chelsea could sign a new defender in January with Tomas Araujo, Antonio Silva, Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio among those linked. In that position, Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga have also been linked to exits and a departure for either would almost certainly result in a new defensive addition.

Ben Chilwell, Cesare Casadei, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka could also move on with a major update coming to light on the latter. According to Sky Sports Germany, Borussia Dortmund are internally discussing a January move for Chukwuemeka.

Despite appearing for just 130 minutes this season, Chelsea are demanding his £40million release clause in full to sanction a permanent departure. Though Dortmund could sell Donyell Malen to Aston Villa in a deal worth up to £25million with personal terms already agreed, a loan for Chukwuemeka appears far more likely.

If that is ultimately the scenario that plays out, Chelsea could be the ones reaping the rewards considering how a brief spell in Germany helped Sancho. The 24-year-old returned to his best levels when back at Dortmund for the first half of 2024 with performances there perhaps part of the reason Chelsea moved to sign him from Manchester United.

This past weekend, Sancho picked up his eighth goal contribution of the season with a brilliant jinking run before finding Cole Palmer to score. Just over 12 months ago, it is unlikely Sancho would have even attempted that but his confidence levels being so high are likely a reason for that and Chukwuemeka will be hoping for similar success.

If the move does go ahead, some impressive displays from Chukwuemeka could see interest in permanently acquiring his services increase if Chelsea opt for that route. Ian Maatsen shined alongside Sancho at Dortmund last season before he joined Aston Villa for £32million.
