Chelsea secure £14m Marc Guehi discount as dream January transfer window bargain emerges
Rumours that Chelsea are interested in re-signing Marc Guehi could see the club gain a financial advantage.
Reports have emerged in recent days claiming that the Blues are interested in signing Guehi from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace. Enzo Maresca has been forced to deal with several defensive injuries in his squad, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile among those on the sidelines.
As a result, Chelsea are reportedly in the market for a new centre-back before the January transfer window closes. Guehi has emerged as a potential target, almost four years after he left Stamford Bridge to move to Selhurst Park.

Chelsea sold Guehi to Palace in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth around £18million. The centre-back has gone on to star for England at the European Championships last year, and has also been heavily linked with Newcastle United and Liverpool in recent months.
As part of the deal that saw Guehi move to Palace, Chelsea are believed to have included a sell-on clause worth up to 20 per cent. This clause means that, were Palace to sell Guehi in the future, then the Blues would be entitled to up to 20 percent of the fee agreed by the Eagles.
Given that Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Guehi, it remains to be seen how their interest could affect the sell-on clause in the deal. It's possible that the Blues would receive the money from the sell-on clause themselves, meaning they would essentially be paying a lower fee to sign Guehi than other clubs.
Reports have speculated that Guehi is valued at around £70million by Palace, having rejected offers from Newcastle last summer. If this valuation remains the case, Chelsea could then, in theory, receive a £14million discount in the deal via the sell-on clause.
Should this turn out to be the case, Chelsea could end up paying £56million to bring Guehi back to Stamford Bridge, as opposed to the full fee which Palace would force other clubs to pay.
