Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has admitted that the club were surprised at Chelsea's decision to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park.

Injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana have left Chelsea short of options, prompting the early recall of Chalobah to Cobham. Josh Acheampong, who is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge, has started the last two Premier League games alongside Levi Colwill.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi are the other central defensive options, although Disasi was omitted from the 20-man squad for the draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, fuelling speculation that he may be leaving the club this month.

And Glasner has shared his thoughts on Chelsea's decision to recall Chalobah. who made 14 appearances for the Eagles, as he discussed Palace's transfer plans.

"I hope we can announce a signing quite early," he said. "Maybe later today or tomorrow, and, as I mentioned, we are also looking for a second one in a different position.

"Yes, Trevoh was a little bit surprising that he was called back by Chelsea, but very good for us is that Chadi Riad is back.

"We will discuss it and let's see. We will just do something if it makes sense, and if we think we don't find a right player who can help us achieving our goals, we won't do anything."

Chelsea have a good relationship with Chalobah, who visited the Blues dressing room earlier this month following their 1-1 draw with Palace. Football.london understands that Chalobah wanted to come back to Chelsea, despite Glasner stating earlier in the week that the defender wished to stay at Palace.
