Chelsea have been rocked after the news that Mauricio Pochettino would be departing the club with immediate effect.

After meeting with the Blues' sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, the parties agreed to part ways. In his final words as manager of the club, Pochettino said: "Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history.

"The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come." The hunt is now on for Pochettino's replacement and football.london has taken a look at what the media is reporting.

Chelsea stance on Mourinho return

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Blues' boardroom will not be tempted into appointing Jose Mourinho, Thomas Tuchel or Antonio Conte as their next manager. The trio are believed to be interested in returning to the Premier League but Chelsea would rather appoint a younger, up-and-coming manager.

Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, who has been targeted by Brighton, and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca are all being linked to the vacancy.

What FL says: Todd Boehly is absolutely right to avoid jumping on the managerial roundabout again by appointing one of the Blues' ex-managers. Parting ways with Pochettino is a huge gamble by the club especially considering his popularity among the squad. However, now he has gone it seems only right that Chelsea appoint a boss who they can build a project around. But if they do this, Boehly cannot be trigger-happy again if things do not go right immediately next season. It will take time and Pochettino's successor deserves that.

Pochettino set for swift return

Pochettino may have only just departed Stamford Bridge but he will be back in the managerial dugout in less than three weeks' time as he leads the Rest of the World team against England at Soccer Aid. The charity match shall take place on June 9 and it was agreed before his Chelsea exit, that Pochettino would be the manager for the Rest of the World as he was last year in Manchester.

What FL says: It is a blessing that Pochettino had already agreed to this commitment before the meeting with the Chelsea boardroom as it allows the Blues fans in attendance to give the manager a proper send-off. Chelsea's fanbase have had an up-and-down relationship with the ex-Spurs man over the campaign but recent performances mean he deserves a proper goodbye and we are sure he will receive that.
