As Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho is linked with a January switch to Chelsea, Blues full-back Marc Cucurella has fanned the flames of this ongoing saga.

As reported by MEN Sport, Chelsea have taken their interest in Garnacho up a level. They have become frontrunners for the 20-year-old, who is not pushing to leave but would have a decision thrust in his direction when an offer arrives, as our colleagues at football.london expect one to.

Man United have already rejected a £40m approach from Napoli last week, now they have since turned their attentions to Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.

They too may not wish to part ways with Garnacho, yet the meeting of the set price tag will force considerations as Old Trafford officials must weigh up the benefits the transfer will bring helping to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

In this latest update, Chelsea's Cucurella has added to the discussion by liking an Instagram post of Fabrizio Romano linking the Argentine with Stamford Bridge.

This so-called 'stamp of approval' is on a post that claims the Blues will offer €70m (£59m) - £19m more than Napoli - when they make their first move.

As a left-sided full-back, the Spaniard would hypothetically strike up a partnership with Garnacho were they to become teammates for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Playing for their current teams, the two players have clashed three times. Garnacho has recorded two goals and assist in those meetings, with one win, one draw and a defeat splitting their head-to-head record equally.

United boss Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, refused to speak about transfer interest in Garnacho. Ahead of Thursday's game with Rangers, he told a press conference: "Our focus is that our players are here to play, we need to improve, we need to win games to have that feeling of winning, it's really important for us so let's focus on that."

"I don't want to talk about that, especially before a game."
