Christopher Nkunku has identified Arsenal as a potential destination should he leave Chelsea during the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has struggled for regular game time under Enzo Maresca this season, having started just three Premier League matches.

Nkunku was handed a rare top-flight start in the 2-0 defeat against Ipswich on Monday but failed to impress. He has been a regular figure in the Conference League XI, however, scoring seven goals and adding three assists in seven appearances in that competition.

But the France international is growing frustrated with his minutes in the Premier League and wants to leave the Blues this winter, according to CaughtOffside. It's claimed that Nkunku's representatives are exploring possible moves where their client could go to, with Arsenal on their radar.

The Gunners could be keen to strengthen their forward line in January. Mikel Arteta's side boasts a decent scoring record, netting 35 goals in 18 league matches this season, but it does feel as though they are missing another No.9 to take them to the next level and fire them towards the title.

Nkunku, who has shown in glimpses that he is a capable Premier League striker, could be an astute addition for Arsenal should they decide to pursue a move. If Nkunku made the switch across London, he would be the fourth player to leave Chelsea for the Gunners within the last two years.

As well as Arsenal, a return to Paris Saint-Germain, where he came through their academy before signing for RB Leipzig, is also said to be possible. Chelsea are understood to be unwilling to prevent those who want to leave from doing so, as Enzo Maresca has publicly stated in the past.

Speaking back in November, Maresca admitted that Nkunku has not been playing in his best position for Chelsea, despite his goalscoring record. The Italian said: "Probably the best moment from Christo for us was in pre-season.

"For me that was because he was playing in his position, which is as a No.10 behind the striker, between the lines. Since we started the season, he is often playing as a nine for us. He also played the first Premier League game against Manchester City from the start as a winger, and we know that it’s not his best position.

"We know that Christo’s best position is between the lines as a 10, but Cole [Palmer] is playing there, and we are not going to play many games with Cole and Christo, or with Cole and Joao [Felix]."
