Reece James has sent a touching message to former Chelsea teammate Mason Mount after the Manchester United star suffered another 'devastating' injury setback.

Mount is expected to be out for 'several weeks' after picking up a leg injury during the first half of last Sunday's 2-1 win over Manchester City. The 25-year-old was making just his ninth Premier League start for United, having struggled for form and fitness since his £60million move from Chelsea in July 2023.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Mount wrote: "Words can't portray how devastated I'm feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.

"United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith. I've said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won't stop until that's achieved."

James, who has endured a difficult spell himself with injuries, was quick to post a message of support to Mount and said: "Not many people understand what you’re going through but I have lived your disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. It's real tough and lonely man! Speedy recovery and stay strong brother! I have no doubts you’ll be back to your best."

United boss Ruben Amorim revealed that Mount had sustained the fresh injury setback after Thursday's 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Tottenham. He said: "I don't know the exact date but it is going to be long."

When quizzed about whether Mount is injury prone, Amorim added: "That is not my department.

"What I can do is help Mase to teach him to play our game while he is recovering, to give him that time to think about different things. With Mason Mount, we are going to help him and it is really hard for him to be out so long. He is trying really hard. If they try hard, we will help them to the end."

James was not the only one to send a message to Mount. United captain Bruno Fernandes said: "Always with you," alongside a heart emoji. "We will be by your side in every moment. We fall together, we rise together."
