Chelsea loanee Armando Broja has been handed a fresh injury problem after the Everton striker was stretchered off during their 2-0 win over Peterborough United in the FA Cup.

The Albanian was left requiring oxygen after leaping over a challenge from Emmanuel Fernandez in the latter stages of the second-half. Broja jumped the sliding tackle but seemingly landed awkwardly and was immediately in discomfort holding his right leg.

There was a seven-minute stoppage as he required medical treatment before the Toffees medical team stretchered him off the pitch and off for scans. It marks the latest injury frustration for the 23-year-old after being forced to miss the start of his loan spell with the Merseyside team after recovering from long-term Achilles injury.

He was a doubt for the visit from the League One side on Thursday night after he was forced off inside 30 minutes of their 1-0 defeat away at AFC Bournemouth. The disappointment on the south coast proved to be Sean Dyche's final game in charge as the 53-year-old was unceremoniously dismissed hours before their FA Cup campaign kicked off.

Everton and Chelsea will be hoping that the issue isn't too severe but comes as the latest setback in his playing career so far. A cruciate ligament injury in 2022 forced the Albania international to almost miss a full calendar year of action before his Achilles problem forced him to miss 15 matches.

Toffees caretaker manager Leighton Baines said: "Obviously, it looked bad. He went off to the other side of the pitch. We weren’t sure if he’d go to hospital, or not, but he hasn’t.

"We don’t know the extent of it at the moment, other than it’s a lower-leg injury. He hasn’t been taken to hospital, so I’ve taken that as a good sign."
