Why Antonio Conte's uncertain Chelsea future is throwing transfer plans into chaos

Until Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea is resolved they may miss out on potential summer transfer targets, according to reports.

The Italian has been primed for the chop for some time and it’s widely regarded he will not be Blues manager next season having overseen a disastrous defence of the Premier League title.

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the table, eight points off Tottenham in fourth with chances of qualifying for the Champions League all but gone. They only trophy that remains is the FA Cup with Conte’s side into the semi-finals and playing relegation-threatened Southampton at the weekend.

And now, according to The Daily Mail, Chelsea’s main summer transfer targets are showing “a reluctance to sign with the club” until the managerial situation is sorted.

The Blues have reportedly held informal discussions over a host of potential signings already ahead of the summer transfer window, but that could all be scuppered if they don’t clear up who will be in charge next season.

Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, with Roman Abramovich and co having reportedly made first contact with the 59-year-old Italian last week.

And one of his charges, Manchester City and Arsenal target Jean Michael Seri, is apparently one of the names on the club’s list with Chelsea keen to complete a £35 million deal for the Ivory Coast midfielder regardless of who their manager is next season.

But if it is Sarri that could all tie in nicely.
