Arsenal have been warned that Chelsea could submit a 'huge bid' for Alexander Isak during the January transfer window. The 25-year-old striker has been heavily linked with an exit from Newcastle United this month as Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca look bolster their respective frontlines.

Since returning from a toe injury in October, Isak has featured 13 times for Newcastle in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists. Playing a key role in Eddie Howe's side, the Sweden international has helped the Magpies climb above Manchester City into fifth place.

His impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed, with Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United mooted as potential suitors. Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Pat Nevin backed his former side to break the bank for Isak's signature.

"I would not be surprised if Chelsea made a huge bid for Alexander Isak this January if they get any sort of hint that he is available," said the ex-Blues winger. "Chelsea would love him.

"Having said that, I think he would be the best possible fit for Arsenal and if I was him I would be looking at that. Style-wise and technique-wise, can you imagine him playing in front of Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard, it would be scary."

With Joshua Zirkzee facing an uncertain future and Rasmus Hojlund struggling to impress, Nevin added: "Manchester United might also be involved if they hear that he is available, but I can’t imagine how Eddie Howe would feel about letting him go."

In order to secure Isak's signature, Nevin has tipped Chelsea to raise £80m by offloading 'four or five' players this month. The 61-year-old added: "Chelsea are a trading club so they will be looking at every position in January.

"They have an outlook of trading players and the American sports outlook will be that eventually everything will fall into place. I think Chelsea will get rid of four or five players in January and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are decent sized names."

Nevin added: "I don’t think it would raise eyebrows with Chelsea fans either because they’ve seen the club make money that way. Chelsea could make about £80m back and that would give them a chance of signing a big name player and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a striker.

"Christopher Nkunku could well be one of the players to leave and not because he isn’t good enough, just because that’s the way Chelsea do business."

Despite speculation over his future, Isak seems content at St James' Park. Speaking to Prime Video Sweden earlier this month, as quoted by Chronicle Live, he said: "Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the main dream that I've had. Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with a fan base like they have here is extra special."

Then, in an interview with Swedish publication Fotbal Skanalen in November, as quoted by 90min, Isak, who sees his contract in Tyneside run until at least June 2028, claimed he's not thought about leaving. He said: "Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season.

"There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn't affect me. I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that.

"I have no thoughts about anything else," Isak added. "The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing."
