Chelsea have a recall clause in Trevoh Chalobah's loan contract at Crystal Palace amid their defensive injury woes. Chalobah, 25, has been impressive since moving to Selhurst Park in the summer, and there has been talk that he could return to west London this winter.

The Blues have lost Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile to significant injuries in recent weeks, and Josh Acheampong, a natural right-back, started in the three-man defence against Palace on Saturday. Although Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo were available, both have struggled for form, and Enzo Maresca opted to go for the Cobham academy graduate alongside Levi Colwill.

Acheampong didn't look out of place on his first Premier League start, but that hasn't stopped rumours circulating around whether Chelsea could bring Chalobah back and strengthen their defensive unit.

Chalobah had started 12 of Palace's last 13 league matches before being unavailable to face his parent club Chelsea this weekend. Oliver Glasner hinted after the match that the Blues could recall the former England Under 21s international and appeared to cut a concerned figure that the Blues might take up that option.

Glasner said in his post-match press conference: "I don't know what they're planning. But Trevoh is doing very well for us, and we are planning with him."

The Palace boss cited Disasi and Tosin being on the bench as a reason he doesn't expect Chelsea to recall Chalobah and added: "They have five centre-backs; I don't know if they need, I don't know, eight?!"

Now, The Guardian have since reported that there is, in fact, a recall clause that could see Chalobah return to Chelsea in the January transfer window. The Blues have the option to cut short his season-long loan at Palace, which would see him return to Stamford Bridge six months earlier than expected.

Last summer, Chelsea were demanding around £25million for Chalobah's services. He still has three-and-a-half years on his contract, and the Blues might want something similar should Palace hope to keep him on a permanent deal. While there is a recall clause in Chalobah's loan deal, there is no option or obligation to buy.
