Chelsea on verge of first transfer deadline day signing as Enzo Maresca issued midfield boost
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne for a fee worth over £10million, football.london understands.
The 19-year-old midfielder is expected to move to Stamford Bridge before tonight's 11pm deadline. It remains unclear at this point whether he will move back out on loan, but with there being an international loan spot available it is certainly a possibility.
Caleb Wiley was recalled from his loan at Strasbourg, the French club owned by BlueCo, and sent to Watford for the remainder of the season. FIFA rules state that a football club is not permitted to have more than three players on loan at a specific club at the same time.

With Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos currently on loan at Strasbourg, Amougou could follow suit. Chelsea and Saint-Etienne have agreed on a fee north of £10million and the final details are now being sorted ahead of Amougou's move to Stamford Bridge.
If Amougou is not loaned out, then he will provide cover for Enzo Maresca in midfield. Romeo Lavia is currently absent with another injury, meaning Chelsea are rather short when it comes to options in the middle of the pitch.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been the two main midfielders for the Blues this season but Maresca would like to rest them more when possible. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another option but has not been trusted in the Premier League as much as he would have liked, while Carney Chukwuemeka is on his way to Borussia Dortmund on loan and Cesare Casadei has signed for Torino on a permanent deal.
