There was nothing to split Chelsea and Aston Villa in their FA Cup fourth round tie at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.

The Blues again lined up without a striker and while they did craft out a number of good chances, could not find a way through.

That has been a rather typical failing of Mauricio Pochettino's side this season. Cole Palmer wasted the best opportunities, while Noni Madueke should have done better in the first-half following his teammate's cut-back. While there were promising moments thanks to Pochettino's high-press, the lack of cutting edge in the penalty box is proving to be an issue.

Villa were not without their chances, either. Douglas Luiz had a goal ruled out for a handball in the first-half, with both Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa going close after the break. Emi Martinez may have saved them at times but Unai Emery's side will rue proving wasteful themselves.

A high-quality cup tie, the two teams will now meet at Villa Park next month.

Mauricio Pochettino revealed his "shock" at Jurgen Klopp's departure and played down any injury concerns to Levi Colwill after Chelsea's draw with Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

The 20-year-old defender was named in the starting eleven on Friday night but pulled out of the team after the warm up

Colwill watched on from the sidelines as the Blues played out a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge and will need a replay to progress into the last 16.

Chelsea's wasteful finishing cost them again despite an impressive display at home to Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Cole Palmer started up front as a false 9 and was particularly wasteful, missing two guilt-edged chances, as Mauricio Pochettino's pressing set-up kept forcing mistakes.

Noni Madueke also missed a big chance but Villa had a goal ruled out by VAR as Douglas Luiz was adjudged to have handled it before turning in early on.
