Chelsea vs Leicester LIVE!

Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a thrilling 4-2 win over Leicester at Stamford Bridge. It had looked like being a comfortable afternoon for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at half-time, with goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer giving the Blues real control despite a penalty miss from Raheem Sterling.

But a freak own goal from Axel Disasi after the break gave Leicester hope and Stephy Mavididi then curled a stunning finish into the top corner to get the Championship side level. Chelsea were awarded a penalty with 20 minutes remaining as Nicolas Jackson was brought down, though it was overturned after a VAR review deemed the contact from Callum Doyle was outside the area. It was only a slight let-off for the Foxes though, as Doyle was duly shown a straight red card.

The home fans grew increasingly frustrated as the match ticked into stoppage-time, but the pressure was lifted as Carney Chukwuemeka combined superbly with Palmer and slid a cool finish beyond Jakub Stolarczyk. Leicester’s race was run, but there was still time for Noni Madueke to get himself on the scoresheet, drifting beyond the challenges and brilliantly finding the top corner with the final kick, as the Blues secured a Wembley next month.

14:35 , Matt Verri

89 mins: Chelsea with all of the ball - not doing a whole lot with it.

Leicester solid enough in their shape for now. Gallagher wide to Gusto, he drills a cross into the middle and Madueke’s shot is well saved!

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:33 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Huge cheers as Madueke comes on.

He replaces Sterling, who claps the fans on his way off. Actually a fairly decent reception - not the widespread boos we had earlier.

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:31 , Matt Verri

Leicester are being pinned right back - ten men struggling to get on the ball.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:26 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino is booed and chants of "you don't know what you're doing" as he subs off Mykhailo Mudryk instead of Raheem Sterling for Carney Chukwuemeka.

To make their point felt further, the fans near the bench give Mudryk a standing ovation.

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:24 , Matt Verri

78 mins: Leicester are shutting up shop. Dewsbury-Hall off, Coady coming on at centre-back.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:22 , Matt Verri

Chelsea supporters are booing Raheem Sterling and chanting "get him off" after he skies a free-kick.

It has not been his day, a poor display, but it feels harsh.

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:21 , Matt Verri

75 mins: Just in for Mavididi.

Palmer and Sterling standing over this free-kick. About six inches outside the area.

Sterling with a long, long run-up... and he blasts the ball almost out of the stadium! Boos around the stadium.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:19 , Matt Verri

This is an eventful game. Callum Doyle is sent off after a VAR check.

He was initially given a yellow card and a penalty was given but VAR showed the foul was outside the box and he was the last man.

NO PENALTY... RED CARD!

14:18 , Matt Verri

The contact from Doyle was just outside the area.

It means it will be a free-kick... and a red card for Doyle! Leicester down to 10.

PENALTY CHELSEA!

14:17 , Matt Verri

Doyle clips Jackson in the box, that’s a penalty.

Sensational work from Jackson, who spun into space and moved into the box brilliantly.

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:14 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Mavididi booked for pulling back Gusto.

Leicester should then make more of a quick break, as Dewsbury-Hall overhits a pass through to Mavididi. He would have been in.

Chelsea 2-2 Leicester

14:12 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Palmer looks to match that finish, curled effort floats wide though.

Reminder that there are no replays at this stage of the FA Cup. We’ll have extra time and penalties if needed.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

14:10 , Matt Verri

This is now a test of nerves, character and fight for Chelsea. What have they got?

That's an absolute screamer from Stephy Mavididi and this is a sensational FA Cup quarter-final match.

Leicester are level!

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

14:07 , Matt Verri

That’s swiftly sorted, up and running again and Mudryk is away down the left. He wins a corner for the Blues.

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

14:06 , Matt Verri

60 mins: “Shooooot” is the shout from the Leicester fans every time Disasi gets the ball. Sure he appreciates that.

Sanchez is looking so nervous on the ball, no confidence at all.

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

14:05 , Matt Verri

58 mins: Ndidi to the byline this time, gets a ball in to the near post.

Daka gets across his man, hits his shoulder though and the ball loops over for a goal-kick.

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

14:03 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Anything could happen in the final 35 minutes or so of this match. Crazy amount of space on offer.

Ndidi with a nice run into the box, can’t quite get on the end of a cross.

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

14:00 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Chelsea have responded pretty well to that shambles.

Caicedo into the box, gets the shot away but not enough power on it.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:59 , Matt Verri

A calamity at the back as Axel Disasi loops the ball into his own goal under pressure from Patson Daka.

That will go down as one of the great, but embarrassing own goals. The game is well and truly on.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 Leicester | Axel Disasi OG 51'

13:57 , Matt Verri

Game on!

Disastrous from Chelsea - a horror show from Disasi.

Cannot believe was has happened. About 35 yards from his own goal, tries to play it back to Sanchez and instead it’s a wonderful finish!

Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

13:54 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Mudryk gets Chelsea up the pitch, finds Jackson.

He picks out Palmer, wants to cut inside onto that left foot and get a shot away, but Leicester know it’s coming.

Back underway!

13:51 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Stamford Bridge!

Moment to forget for Sterling

13:42 , Matt Verri

Aside from that assist for Palmer’s goal, it’s been a really poor half for Sterling.

He stepped up to take the penalty - not sure he’ll be taking another one this season.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:38 , Matt Verri

A really good half from Chelsea as goals from Cucurella (!) and Palmer have left the Blues with one foot in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Leicester look dangerous but open at the back. They need the next goal to cause any kind of scare.

HT: Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

13:35 , Matt Verri

And that’s half-time.

Chelsea in control, despite the penalty miss and Leicester having some promising moments.

Goals from Cucurella and Palmer - the Blues are on track to seal a return to Wembley.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Leicester | Cole Palmer 45+1'

13:33 , Matt Verri

It is 2-0 now!

Sterling sets it up, drifting into space on the left and squaring the ball into the box. Palmer makes the run to the near post and finishes from six yards out.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:32 , Matt Verri

Raheem Sterling misses a simple one-on-one. This is not his day, the Chelsea supporters around me are furious.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:31 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Should be 2-0... again!

Caicedo plays Sterling clean through on goal, only the goalkeeper to beat.... and he curls a finish wide.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:30 , Matt Verri

Really exciting game, this.

Chelsea look electric in moments and nervy in others, creating a great spectacle.

Leicester have real quality and have come here to play their football. Chelsea won't be able to relax until they get another goal.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:29 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Leicester with a better spell of possession, but Disasi clears a ball into the box.

Fatawu then picks out Ndidi down the side of the Chelsea defence, ball in is straight at Sanchez though.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:27 , Matt Verri

39 mins: The ball over the top to Jackson is on every time - the Chelsea striker isn’t getting the service though.

Scrappy few minutes in the match, neither side keeping hold of the ball very well.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:23 , Matt Verri

36 mins: Chelsea fans starting to get a bit frustrated.

Jackson makes a nice out wide on the run, but Disasi opts to slow things down and turn back. Doesn’t go down well.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:21 , Matt Verri

Interestingly, Cole Palmer is on the pitch and could have taken the penalty, but Mauricio Pochettino doesn't officially have a dedicated taker.

Palmer is supposed to share penalty-taking duties with Raheem Sterling, Enzo Fernandez and potentially others.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:20 , Matt Verri

33 mins: Sanchez needs some treatment after that, took a blow to the back of his head.

He’ll be fine to continue, after Petrovic briefly started warming up on the touchline.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:18 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Another Leicester corner, after more good work from Dewsbury-Hall. Best Foxes player by a mile so far.

Sanchez comes for the corner, gets nowhere near it and Faes heads wide. Real chance.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:16 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Gusto charges away down the right again, Leicester can’t live with him.

He has a couple of blue shirts waiting for a cutback on the edge of the box... can’t pick out either of them.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:14 , Matt Verri

Sterling, who is struggling to win over the home Chelsea support, misses the penalty.

It is a bad moment for the winger, who hasn't been picked by England since the World Cup.

Fatawu is a lucky boy after giving away the penalty with a brainless tackle.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:13 , Matt Verri

26 mins: It was an awful penalty. Leicester fans at that end absolutely loved it.

Scuffs the effort down the middle, easily saved by the knee Stolarczyk.

MISSES!

13:12 , Matt Verri

Sterling cannot convert the penalty!

Not sure why he’s taken it with Palmer on the pitch, but Sterling misses the penalty.

Daka wastes a huge chance at one end and then Chelsea win a penalty at the other within seconds!

Ball came through to Sterling, who is taken out from behind by Fatawu.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:10 , Matt Verri

23 mins: More like it from Leicester. Dewsbury-Hall starting to get involved, he puts a great cross into the middle and Cucurella nods it behind for a corner.

Chelsea don’t deal with it well, ball rolls around in the six-yard box before it’s lumped clear.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:08 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Gusto away down the right, keeps the ball in play and Jackson does well to lay it back to Palmer.

Chelsea dominating possession, Leicester struggling to get a foothold.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:06 , Matt Verri

Leicester are looking rocked since the goal.

But Chelsea can still be Chelsea, as Robert Sanchez gets away with one after being tackled by Patson Daka in his own box.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:05 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Action at both ends!

Sanchez takes far too long the ball, Daka comes charging in and the ball squirms away for a goal-kick.

Ball then falls for Mudryk at the other end in the box, big chance but his shot is blocked... by Sterling.

Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

13:03 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Chelsea on the charge now.

Mudryk driving through the Leicester midfield, tries to slide a pass through to Jackson but gets too much on it.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

13:01 , Matt Verri

That is sensational from Nicolas Jackson. One of his finest moments in a Chelsea shirt.

The striker carried the ball from the halfway line, then beat Vestergaard one-vs-one before putting the ball on a plate for Cucurella to tap into an empty goal.

1-0. What an assist.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Leicester | Marc Cucurella 13'

13:00 , Matt Verri

Chelsea lead!

Jackson with a powerful run, gets to the byline and rolls the ball across the face of goal, leaving Cucurella a tap-in at the back post.

Far too easy for Jackson to beat Vestergaard as he skipped into the box.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

12:59 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Nice move from Chelsea, before Sterling plays a really poor ball to give it away.

Mavididi fouled as he moves forward.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

Leicester supporters are mocking their former left-back: "Ben Chilwell, he sits on the bench".

Marc Cucurella is preferred today by Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

12:56 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Caicedo floats a long ball over the top, good run from Jackson but the ball bounces through to the goalkeeper.

That pass is on though, with Leicester playing a high line.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

12:54 , Matt Verri

Mudryk and Sterling swapping positions a lot early on as Chelsea got without Enzo Fernandez, forcing the usual No Conor Gallagher into a deeper No6 role.

it is a good opportunity for Gallagher with England duty coming and Gareth Southgate needing that kind of player.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

12:53 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Frantic feel to this match in the early stages.

Space on offer for both sides, Leicester looking really dangerous when they do get the ball.

Cucurella in for a tough afternoon against Fatawu, but he’s so far stood up well to the task.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

12:51 , Matt Verri

Cole Palmer almost opens the scoring with a Gianfranco Zola-esque flick from a Mykhailo Mudryk corner.

There was a dangerous bobble around the six yard box before Leicester got it clear.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

12:51 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Chelsea’s turn to win a corner, as Palmer drives into the box.

Taken short, Palmer whips in a deep cross and it’s flicked behind by Doyle for another corner.

Mudryk takes this one, Palmer gets a touch at the near post and it very nearly loops into the far corner. Leicester scramble it clear.

Nizaar Kinsella at Stamford Bridge

Leicester's wingers are going to be a real threat today.

Both Mavididi and Fatawu are fast and direct while being able to score or assist out of nothing.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

12:48 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Bright start from Leicester, winning a corner with barely a minute on the clock.

Ends with Winks trying his luck from distance, shot flashes wide.

Chelsea's players conduct their increasingly common pre-match huddle, with Conor Gallagher leading it.

Enzo Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino embrace each other ahead of kick-off.

The atmosphere feels well and truly alive in both the home and away ends in a big match for both clubs.

12:45 , Matt Verri

Teams are out onto the pitch. Rain has stopped falling for now.

Chelsea have won ten of their last 13 matches on home soil. Doesn’t always feel like it, but they have been fairly impressive at Stamford Bridge.

Not long now!

12:40 , Matt Verri

Five minutes to go until kick-off in west London.

Players will be in the tunnel very shortly - such a big match for both sides.

Particularly Chelsea you feel, there season is effectively on the line here.

Pre-match thoughts from Pochettino

12:35 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking ahead of kick-off, and pointed to Wolves’ defeat to Coventry yesterday as proof that his side must be at their best.

“That is the beauty of the FA Cup,” he says.

The Chelsea boss is also asked whether he feels he is getting patience from the fans.

He says: “No I don’t! I try to explain the reality, but Chelsea one of the biggest clubs in the world and the fans want to win trophies but we’re in a different project now.”

Chelsea could really do with finding some consistency...

Silva to turn to coaching?

12:23 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva can learn what it takes to be a coach by being in a dressing room half his age.

The legendary Brazilian defender turns 40 in September and is beginning to think about his life beyond playing football after starting his UEFA B Licence last month, as Standard Sport first revealed earlier this year.

Silva has also recently hinted he could leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, while his wife Belle sparked controversy urging the need for “change” at Chelsea.

However, Pochettino insists Silva is getting a lot out of one of the few difficult seasons in his illustrious career and can learn about coaching around such a young group.

He said: “No, it is a good experience for him, and the kids also. If he wants to be a coach, he is experiencing a very good time.”

Willy Caballero is back out on the pitch at Stamford Bridge warming up with Leicester XI. What a great free signing the goalkeeper was for Chelsea back in the day.

Much has changed since he left the club in 2021.

Maresca: Palmer hasn't changed

12:09 , Matt Verri

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca worked with Cole Palmer when the pair were at Manchester City, and he has not been surprised to see the 21-year-old shine at Stamford Bridge.

“I think people that know Cole, they don't see any change - in terms of the things that he's doing now, he was always doing,” Maresca said.

“The only difference is, unfortunately with City, he had many players like him so he struggled a little bit.

“At Chelsea now, he's found more space so he's showing himself, so Cole now is the player that everyone is watching."

Chelsea's season on the line again

11:59 , Matt Verri

Another weekend, another important test of Mauricio Pochettino’s staying power.

The Chelsea head coach is clear he will not give up trying to change the minds of frustrated fans, and an FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester is a big opportunity to see the pendulum swing back in his favour.

Pressure remains on Pochettino, but most of the squad remain behind him and working on making things click.

The Chelsea boss has smartly taken the domestic cup competitions seriously. By picking his best team each time, he has given Chelsea another chance to win a trophy out of chaos.

In knockout competition, Chelsea can ill-afford a slip-up, with their season on a knife-edge.

Chelsea are as strong as they can be with Mykhailo Mudryk preferred to Carney Chukwuemeka as Enzo Fernandez's replacement, who is suspended.

It will be interesting to see if the Ukrainian, who has scored in two of his last three games, is playing as a No10 as he did against Leeds.

Robert Sanchez is in for Djordje Petrovic as he looks to reclaim the No1 jersey longer term, and Marc Cucurella keeps his place despite Ben Chilwell's return.

Chelsea squad are here - all the team news from Stamford Bridge coming up in the next five minutes or so.

Broja fee triggered by Fulham

11:34 , Matt Verri

Chelsea have pocketed £4million after Armando Broja was left out of the Fulham squad for their 3-0 win over Tottenham.

Broja’s loan move to Fulham has not gone to plan since his switch from Chelsea on deadline day at the end of the January transfer window.

The striker has played just 48 minutes in four substitute appearances and looks unlikely to see much action during the run-in due to the blistering form of Rodrigo Muniz.

Broja was not even on the bench against Spurs and Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed he was dropped from the squad due to “a technical decision, nothing more”.

Under the terms of Broja’s move to Craven Cottage, Fulham are required to pay Chelsea £4m if he does not start 10 matches for them.

Fulham now have just nine fixtures left this season, so that clause has been triggered.

Pochettino reveals Chelsea nerves

11:25 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino says some of his players were so nervous before the Carabao Cup final that they didn’t sleep, as he bids to return to Wembley in the FA Cup.

This competition offers a last chance of silverware and winning it provides a route into the Europa League, with Chelsea still 11th in the Premier League table.

In a season of struggles, Pochettino admits that his players want to get used to reaching finals as his inexperienced group attempt to match expectations and build experience.

“For us, to again beat Leicester, in our private room in the dressing room and training ground would be massive for us,” he said.

“To have another game to play for this young team in Wembley again. Between you and me, some players didn’t sleep before the [Carabao Cup] final.

“It’s only about being more experience and living these experiences to be better. For us, we want to reach another semi-final and challenge to the final and get into Europe through the FA Cup.

“We learn through experience, positive and negative, more with negative because of the pain. And, of course, for sure, to again play at Wembley, it will feel different.

“First we need to beat Leicester, with a fantastic coach and players, it will be tough to beat them.”

Visitors have arrived at a cloudy Stamford Bridge...

Why Fernandez is suspended

11:09 , Matt Verri

Enzo Fernandez will play no part in today’s quarter-final against Leicester after he picked up a suspension.

The midfielder is banned after his yellow card late against Leeds in the last round.

The £106million signing was booked for dissent, as he voiced his frustration at not getting a decision.

Fernandez went down from a Leeds free-kick, but play was waved on and Dan James ultimately fired over the bar.

In the FA Cup, players who pick up two yellow cards in the competition are suspended for the following match, and Fernandez has now reached that mark.

The midfielder was also booked in the previous round, when Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 in a replay. It was a needless yellow card too, with Fernandez punished for taking his shirt off after scoring a wonderful free-kick.
