Premier League PSR update

The Premier League will make an announcement over any breaches of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) on Tuesday, with Chelsea one of the clubs that has been spoken about over the last few months.

The Blues are highly confident of their adherence to the rules, despite heavy spending on transfers since the arrival of owners Todd Boehly and Behad Eghbali. The club are reported to have sold two of the club’s hotels to a company associated with the owners, something which is said to have been approved by the Premier League.

The club’s sale of the women’s team to the club’s parent company is said to be under review by the Premier League. The sales would have increased the club’s income, allowing them to spend but stay under the £105 million threshold.

Clubs that are found guilty of breaching the rules are likely to face a points deduction.

FL says: Chelsea fans will be hoping that the confidence of the club proves to be right and that they are not announced as breaching the rules. Any points deduction will end any faint hopes of challenging for the title this season, and, as well as being a big blow to the aim of finishing in the Champions League positions at the end of the campaign, it would also have a big impact on future spending in the transfer window.

Swap deal solution

Chelsea have had contact with Bayern Munich over a possible deal for winger Mathys Tel in the January transfer window, football.london understands. However, contrary to reports, there have been no discussions over a possible swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku.

Bayern are, however, interested in signing the Chelsea man who has been in and out of the starting lineup so far this season. He has mainly been used as backup to main striker Nicolas Jackson throughout the season.

Tel is understood to have been on Chelsea’s radar for some time, with the club making an enquiry about the 19-year-old in the summer transfer window. The teenager is struggling for regular game time under Vincent Kompany so far this season.

FL says: Although talks over a potential swap deal are yet to take place, it could be the ideal solution for all parties. Joining the different clubs could give both Tel and Nkunku the game time that they are craving, with both clubs getting a player who they have been showing an interest in.

The one stumbling block could be Tel’s willingness to leave Bayern. The winger is said to be determined to be a success with the German giants.
