Chelsea warned about 'serial offender' in new referee verdict after Bournemouth controversy
Keith Hackett has called for match officials to pay closer attention to Marc Cucurella when refereeing Chelsea matches in the future.
The former Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) general manager claims the defender got away with a blatant yellow card offence minutes into the Blues' match against Bournemouth. Cucurella cut across David Brooks to block the player's off-the-ball run, bringing down the Wales winger and winding him in the process.
The referee, Rob Jones, did not initially stop the match, and Chelsea continued playing despite Brooks being down, as is their prerogative, as the issue was not a head injury. When the game belatedly stopped, the player received treatment while floored before continuing, with no yellow card forthcoming for Cucurella.

Hackett highlighted the incident afterwards and believes it is part of the player's growing catalogue of indiscretions. A month ago, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank called out Cucurella for going to ground and holding his face before being sent off after the full-time whistle following a fracas with Kevin Schade when the Blues met the Bees.
Hackett has now told Football Insider : "Cucurella is beginning to become a serious offender in games, and match officials in their preparations should be aware that he is a player to keep an eye on. His act is a blatant unfair impeding offence for which he should have received a yellow card."
Brooks and Cucurella clashed again early in the second half when Cucurella again ran across Brooks. This time, the latter initiated contact by sticking out his arm and catching Cucurella's hair as the Chelsea defender ran at speed while attempting to start a counterattack after Robert Sanchez regained possession.
The video assistant referee, Graham Scott, recommended an on-field review for a possible red card. However, the referee deemed the challenge reckless rather than violent and showed Brooks a yellow card.
